Weetbix TRYathon 2014

Welcome to the Weetbix TRYathlon 2014 page

Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon Christchurch is only days away . . .

Dear Grant's Parent/Caregiver
The Christchurch Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon at Jellie Park is now only days away!! Our awesome ambassadors 10 x NZ Ironman Champion Cameron Brown, World Champion & Olympic Cyclist Alison Shanks and Ex NZ Tall Black & NZ Breakers star Dillon Boucher as well as two All Blacks are looking forward to cheering your child across the finish line!
     To ensure that your child has an enjoyable day and makes it to the start line on time please read
     the information below & share it with your TRYathlete.
What to do before you arrive at Jellie Park, Christchurch.
To make things easier for you we recommend you click here and print out the checklist to take with you. It is a good idea to go through this with your child the night before the event so that they know what to expect on their big day!!

Key timings for the day are as follows;

7:00 am  Event site opens

8.15 am Administration Tent, “CHECK IN”** & Transition & close. All participants must be “CHECKED IN”
by this time & all bikes (along with helmets, and other event gear must be in the
Transition Area).

8.30 am Event Briefing starts

9.00 am TRYathlon starts

** CHECK IN is a system we have to help us with safety aspects of the event. Your child’s bib will be scanned at the entrance to Transition when they arrive so that we know who is actually on site. In the event of an incident this scanning technology helps our operations team to be able to quickly identify your child & any medical conditions they have as well as being able to contact their parent/guardian quickly, without having to look through paperwork to determine the parent/guardians mobile number.

The TRYathlon will be followed by a Prize Giving, so you should plan to be at the venue until approximately 1pm. Please note that for health & safety reasons you will not be able to remove your child’s bike from the transition area until after the prize giving.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT TRANSITION

Transition is where it all happens! It is the change over point from swim gear to cycle gear and then again from cycle gear to running.

Your child will need to take everything that they will need for the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon into the Transition Area & leave it with their bike. Bikes will be lined up by age group – just look for the coloured flag that matches the colour on your child’s bib number & help them rack their bike along this row. There are plenty of HELP TEAM volunteers to assist you if you have any questions.

SAFETY

Safety is paramount & we strongly encourage you to;

Have your child’s bike & helmet safety checked. Our sponsor Avanti will be carrying out free safety  checks at Avanti Stores and also on the day at the Avanti Tent.
Ensure your child’s BIB NUMBER is clearly written on their right arm & right leg.

Numbers should be clearly written in a black permanent marker. This is important as in the event of  an accident it means we are able to identify your child & contact you via the mobile number you supply  during the registration process.
Make sure that your child’s helmet is adjusted to fit correctly. Check out this website for correct  fitting prior to the event & adjust your child’s helmet as necessary so that it is ready to go
on the big day!

For safety reasons, wearing closed in shoes are compulsory for both the cycle & run legs of the TRYathlon. You will also not be able to remove your child’s bike from transition until the completion of prize giving.
